A Visit From Jenny and Owen

My good friend Jenny and her little boy Owen stopped by yesterday to visit for a while. It had been quite a while since we had seen each other, so it was great for both of us to see how much the boys had changed.

After just a few doses of the medicine, he began acting like himself again! Thank goodness! 

Ear Infection

So it turns out that Evan had an ear infection after all. He was absolutely miserable the whole time we were at my cousin's house for the Tom Family Christmas. He wouldn't eat or drink hardly anything. Then I noticed that he had some crusty stuff that had seeped out of his ear. The next day (Sunday), he wasn't feeling any better and still had a fever, so Nick and I decided to take him to the ER since nothing else would be open that day. Sure enough, he had an ear infection. It is amazing how quickly after taking the medicine how quickly he began feeling better!

He was so worn out, he fell asleep on the short drive home from the hospital. 

The Tom Family Christmas

High Fever Blues

Evan had a fever for several days in a row. He also had a bit of a cough as well as a runny nose. He would refuse to drink water or milk from his sippy cup and would hardly eat anything. We thought maybe he had an ear infection, but it turned out he had something called Rosiola. He developed a rash all over his body, but thankfully it didn't itch or anything. I don't like it when he doesn't feel well, but I do like all of the snuggle time that I get. 

All he wanted to do that night was snuggle with Mommy.

He cried and cried until he finally wore himself out on Daddy's lap. 

1st Official Haircut

A few days after Thanksgiving we took Evan to the salon for his first official hair cut. I have trimmed his hair around his ears a few times, but he has never gotten a real hair cut until now. Our good friend Deanna did a great job even though he kept turning his head and trying to see what she was doing.

Christmas Decorations

Several years ago, I found an awesome 9 foot pre-lit artificial Christmas tree for half-price the day after Christmas. It has been a great tree for me over the years. I have always stored the tree in the original box out in the shed in our back yard and have never had a problem. This year, however, when we started putting up the tree, I noticed a weird smell. Then as I put up the middle section I noticed a huge bundle of shredded paper. There was an enormous mouse nest in the middle section of the tree! We had trouble with mice in the shed throughout the summer, but it never had occurred to me that they would make a nest in my Christmas tree! We immediately put the tree back into the box, and took put it out in the garbage. Instead of buying another artificial tree at full price before Christmas, we decided to buy a cheap real tree for this year, then get a new tree at the after Christmas sales. We found a nice little tree, brought it home, had it all set up with lights and ornaments. Evan was in bed (luckily), I had fallen asleep on the couch while Nick was watching TV. I was quickly woken up by a crash. Yep, our tree fell over and all of the decorations fell with it! We got everything cleaned up, but were too tired to mess with it that night. We just leaned it up in the corner of the living room and hoped that it wouldn't fall over again. It turned out that the trunk of the tree was not straight. The next morning, Nick cut part of the trunk at a bit of an angle to make sure that the tree didn't lean as much. It worked. We were able to set the tree up (still with a bit of a lean), without it falling over again. Real trees are beautiful, but they are a lot of work!

Evan was checking out his new nativity scene. It doesn't stay this way for very long. In fact, we were missing Baby Jesus for a while, but he has been found. Unfortunately, we are still missing Joseph.
